Youth Voices: Lived Experiences with Extremism, Targeted Violence, and Belonging

Join the CDHC and program partner Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)

Join us for a conversation with student leaders about the rise of extremism and targeted violence, creating a healthy school climate, building cultures of belonging, and what adults can do to support today’s youth. 

The moderated discussion will feature members of the Illinois State Board of Education’s Student Advisory Council. Eric Veal Jr., University of Michigan Student Body President and Youth Advisory Council alumnus.

Chair of the CDHC’s Community Support and Education Committee

Eric Veal, Jr.

Student Body President at the University of Michigan, alumnus of the Student Advisory Council 

Eric Veal Jr., a recent dual-degree graduate from the University of Michigan, with degrees in Political Science and Secondary Education, with a minor in Public Policy.

Eric held a pivotal leadership position as the  Student Body President, representing the interests of over 53,000 undergraduate and graduate students across the Ann Arbor campus. His institutional influence is further underscored by his appointment as one of two students on the Presidential Search Advisory Committee to the Board of Regents, where he helped guide the search for the next system-wide university president. Beyond campus, Eric brings extensive policy experience, having served on a multitude of governing boards and contributing to educational policy across the nonprofit, private, campaign, and public spheres.  Eric enjoys traveling, musicals, and spending time with friends and family.
